Online safety Talk for Parents 23rdNov 7pm

HOW CAN WE HELP CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE STAY SAFER ONLINE? ~

MONDAY 23 NOVEMBER, 7-8PM, MELDRUM ACADEMY

 Link to Letter

Meldrum Academy Parent Council invite you to an awareness raising event on the subject of Child Exploitation Online Protection (CEOP) and Cyber bullying led by Meldrum Academy and Grampian Police on Monday November 23, 7.00 -8.00pm.

One only has to listen to the news or read the press to discover how vulnerable our young people are with all the technology that is available to them.  Whilst recognising the positives of the technology it is also important that we ensure our youngsters are protected from those who wish to abuse them.

Jim Gamble, Chief Executive of the CEOP Centre said:

“There are many resources out there aimed at helping young people stay safe online – software and other tools which can feel reassuring.  But none of these will help unless people take notice of what the threat really is. This is where CEOP comes in, providing information on what children are actually doing in the virtual world and how offenders are using online environments to target young victims.

A number of Academy staff have been CEOP trained and working with representatives of Grampian Police have raised the pupils’ awareness of this issue throughout the school.  As a Parent Council we recognise this as good practice and would like to extend this to parents.

If you are able to attend please complete the reply slip and return it to the school office by Friday 13 November at the latest. If you have any queries do not hesitate to get in touch Mr Martindale at the Academy.

Yours sincerely

Dave Marshall

Chair, Meldrum Academy Parent Council
